Sometimes in life, everything is just coincidence. That’s how it was with Schtu. I had never heard of him or seen anything by him until now, but sometime in late June 2021 the omniscient YouTube AI introduced me to the video „Schtu Live Set @ Grabowsee by Berlin Brothers“. I listened to it and after a short time I was simply thrilled.

Schtu’s live set is audiovisually one of the best I’ve seen this year. The Berlin Brothers, brand new on the scene, staged it brilliantly in terms of the choice of location and the visual realization. So the question seems to be justified whether something really great is being born in Berlin that doesn’t need to shy away from the comparison with Cercle. The Berlin Brothers have launched a video platform that offers artists a stage to bring the vibe of Berlin into your living room.

Especially the fourth track „Siberian Express“ (starts at 24:49) was very appealing to me and mutates after a few minutes to an earworm that settles deep in the ear canal and won’t let you go.

So I got in touch with Schtu and the Berlin Brothers and without any tedious discussions I got all the info I needed to present you this video and especially the Siberian Express 4-track EP.

The EP is the first release on Schtu’s new Casomat label, which aims to provide a musical home for emerging talent and help them gain the recognition they deserve by additionally bringing in established and proven remixers for the releases.

The EP contains 4 tracks, Siberian Express and Carinet Jam each in the original mix as well as the Siberian Express in Murat Uncuoglu Remix and theClarinet Jam in Simao Remix.

The cool rattling opener Siberian Express in the original mix delivers the very finest head cinema, you really believe to feel how the Siberian Express rattles through the infinite expanse of Siberia. Having just released a highly acclaimed EP on Frankey & Sandrino’s „Sum Over Histories“, Murat Uncuoglu adds more layers of electronic sound in his remix of Siberian Express with stunning sound design wizardry and a billowing pumping bassline.

Clarinet Jam comes with a slight but no less intriguing Klezmer element, which may be a bit daring, but the track fiunctions incredibly well with this organic influence and a forward driving beat. Portuguese-born and London-based Simao, signed to HOSH’s ‚fryhide‘ label, reworks Clarinet Jam with his remix into a grim and hard peak-time club track with a hypnotically infectious groove that always making room for huge sweeps and massive blasts of bass pressure.

The Bottom Line

„Siberian Express EP“ offers dynamic Melodic TechHouse at its best, far away from worn out house paths and proves Schtu’s affinity for analog synthesizers and live drums in combination with careful programming and clever arrangements.
The sound quality may also convince with a powerful stomping, deep bass and cleanly defined treble all along the line.

Manchmal ist im Leben alles nur Zufall. So war es dann auch mit Schtu. Ich hatte bislang noch nie etwas von ihm gehört oder gesehen, doch irgendwann Ende Juni 2021 stellte mir die allwissende YouTube-AI das Video „Schtu Live Set @ Grabowsee by Berlin Brothers“ vor. Ich hörte rein und nach kurzer Zeit war ich schlichtweg begeistert.

Schtu’s Live-Set ist audiovisuell eines der besten, die ich dieses Jahr gesehen habe. Die Berlin Brothers, ganz neu in der Szene, haben das genial inszeniert, was die Wahl der Location und die visuelle Umsetzung angeht. Somit erscheint die Frage durchaus berechtigt, ob in Berlin gerade etwas wirklich Großes im Entstehen begriffen ist, das den Vergleich mit Cercle nicht zu scheuen braucht. Die Berlin Brothers eine haben eine Video-Plattform ins Rennen geschickt, mit der Künstleren eine Bühne geboten wird, die Euch den Vibe von Berlin ins heimische Wohnzimmer beamt.

Insbesondere der vierte Track „Siberian Express“ (startet bei 24:49) hatte es mir sehr angetan und mutiert nach wenigen Minuten zum Ohrwurm, der sich tief im Gehörgang festsetzt und Dich nicht mehr loslässt.

Also nahm ich zu Schtu und den Berlin Brothers Kontakt auf und erhielt ohne mühsame Diskussionen alle Infos die benötige, um Euch dieses Video und vor allem auch die Siberian Express 4-Track EP präsentieren zu können.

Die EP ist das erste Release auf Schtu’s neuem Casomat-Label, das aufstrebenden Talenten ein musikalisches Zuhause bieten und ihnen dabei helfen will , die verdiente Anerkennung zu erlangen, indem zusätzlich etablierte und bewährte Remixer für die Veröffentlichungen hinzugezogen werden.

Die EP beihaltet 4 Tracks, Siberian Express und Carinet Jam jeweils im Original Mix sowie Siberian Express im Murat Uncuoglu Remix und Clarinet Jam im Simao Remix.

Der kühl ratternde Opener Siberian Express im Original Mix liefert allerfeinstes Kopfkino, man glaubt wirklich zu spüren wie der Siberian Express ratternd durch die unendlich weite Sibiriens poltert. Murat Uncuoglu, der gerade eine hochgelobte EP auf Frankey & Sandrinos „Sum Over Histories“ veröffentlicht hat, fügt mit seinem Remix von Siberian Express mit atemberaubender Sounddesign-Zauberei und einer wabernd pumpenden Bassline weitere elektronische Klangebenen mit atemberaubender Sounddesign-Zauberei und einer wabernd pumpenden Bassline ein.

Clarinet Jam kommt mit einem leichten aber nicht weniger faszinierenden Klezmer-Elermenten daher, was zwar etwas gewagt sein mag, doch der Track fiunktioniert mit diesem organischen Einaschlag und einem nach vorne treibenden Beat unglaublich gut. Der in Portugal geborene und in London lebende Simao, der bei HOSHs ‚fryhide‘-Label unter Vertrag steh, überarbeitet Clarinet Jam mit seinem Remix zu einem düsteren und harten Peak-Time-Club-Track mit einem hypnotisch ansteckenden Groove, der immer wieder Platz schafft für riesige Sweeps und massive Druckstöße.

Fazit

„Siberian Express EP“ bietet dynamischen Melodic TechHouse vom Feinsten, fernab von ausgelatschten Housepfaden und stellt Schtu’s Vorliebe für analoge Synthesizer und Live-Drums in Kombination mit sorgfältiger Programmierung und cleveren Arrangements unter Beweis.
Auch die Klangqualität mag mit einem mächtig stampfenden, tief hinab reichenden Bass und sauber definierten Höhen auf der ganzen Linie zu überzeugen.
