Nick Cave: The Idiot Prayer at Alexandra Palace – ARTE Concert – 2021
Genre: Independent / Songwriting
Nick Cave / live and alone on the piano / The Prayer at Alexandra Palace. Nick Cave – I’ve adored him since the Birthday Party days around 1983, in the same year The Bad Seeds were following with a slight move away from punk to more balladic songs,
The album „Murder Ballads“
Since 1996 and the album „Murder Ballads“ I love Nick Cave. This was the time when my life once again unexpectedly took a different shitty direction, and I was completely lost in the landscape. My good friend Bettina pushed the album „Murder Ballads“ into my hand and she said, „I think you will need this now“.
And she was right, so right. Meanwhile Murder Ballads is for me one of the 10 best albums ever made. The mixture on the album of highly melancholic ballads and tracks where you can pack and sink all your frustration, all the disappointment, is sensationally good.
Subsequently, Nick Cave has released a variety of albums, sometimes solo, sometimes with the Bad Seeds, sometimes with his side formation „Grinderman“, with whom Nick Cave has released three extremely remarkable albums between 2007 and 2012: Grinderman, Grinderman 2 and Grinderman 2 Rmx. In addition, there was also theatre music, opera, lots of film music and collaborations with Johnny Cash and Marianne Faithfull, among others.
Album and Video „The Idiot Prayer at Alexandra Palace“.
But it took 25 years for Nick Cave to release „The Idiot Prayer“, the album I’ve been longing for the whole time: a live album, Nick Cave all alone at the piano with the most impressive songs from his musical life, full of melancholy, full of feelings – but without ever slipping into shallow realms.
Recommended songs are „Palaces of Montezuma“, „The Ship Song“ and „Stranger Than Kindness“. That video was recorded in November 2020 and has been streamed worldwide for a fee.e. On July 31, 2021 ARTE Concert France released the concert on YouTube, where it is available in 1080p and comes along with a very good sound quality.
The album for it with 22 tracks was released on November 20, 2020 and is available on Qobuz in Hi-Res 24 bits / 96 kHz. The album is identical in the number of tracks and the sequence to the video.
The Tracklist
The Bottom Line
The video and album „The Idiot Prayer at Alexandra Palace“ with songs from the old master of melancholy Nick Cave is sensationally good. With this interpretation of his best-known songs full of melancholy, passion and emotion, played on the piano, a long-cherished wish may have come true for the fans. „The Idiot Prayer at Alexandra Palace“ is medicine, medicine for your soul.
